Lambeth Palace
The most historic building in the Vauxhall area is Lambeth Palace, home for 900 years of the Archbishops of Canterbury. These first two pictures show the palace in 1697 and the late 1700s respectively.
Today, in the 21st Century, there are occasional guided tours, but the following pictures will give you a feel for what lies behind the palace's high walls. The hammerbeam roof is over the library.
Lambeth Palace also has beautiful classic English gardens ... including English country cottages. They are opened to the public for the Lambeth Fete every June - when they even host impromptu football matches ........ and provide an opportunity for children to play by the pond.
